On April of 1898, America came in to help Cuba earn its independence from Spain and the they did it with the "Big Stick" or America's Navy. The cartoonists is describing the Spanish-American War in this political catroon. The message he is trying to send is clear, "If he can't respect our flag, send him where he blong." Another way in putting in it is if they do not stop attacking Cuba on our commands, fight Spain back to their county. The other side is we should not get involved with Cuba and Spain's problem and worry about our problems. We should stay in our part and worry about our own wars instead of someone elses. A Technique used by the cartoonist is labeling, this is hown with Spain and Cuba labeled to show what they are and what they represent. Another technique uesed is irony because a man is shot back to Spain when its not really like that at all and would really put the man in a bad place. This cartoon acctually does not support my position on impearlism because it says that we should get involved with other country's problems and that it would be a good thing. What happened after the Spanish-American War was that Cuba did not earn its independence and revolted against the United States and continued to until they earn their recieved what they fought for after many years. What side do you support, we should have stayed out of their problems, or we made the right choice?
