On Agust 15, 1914 the Panama cannal is offically opens and allows easier access to the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean, and it also stregthen United State's military. This is portrayed in this political cartoon with all the landmarks, flags, and ships following Rosevelt digging out the cannal. The message being sent is that America has a new treaty and Panama is now a "New Sister Republic". It also says its a good thing because it helps military ships, cargo ships, and passenger ship's travel easier. On the other side, people may think its a bad thing because we help Panama revolt against Colombian Rule just so they can build this cannal. Now we are in interfering with other countries and having their own colonies turn against them because we wanted to have land to build it in area we did not have access to. This cartoon does not support my position and does at the same time. This is because it can be shown as supporting impearialism because we are helping other countries with shipping. It can be shown as a bad thing too because it shows Rosevelt putting the dirt on Bogota and the new treaty they wanted them to follow. What side do you support, this was a good choice and did not interfer with other countries, or the opposite?
