In 1904, Roosevelt announced the Roosevelt Corollary which bassically gave more power to the Monroe Doctrine which stated that no European Countries could not interfere with our side of the World. Roosevelt also said that if they did interfere then he would use the "Big Stick" or the American Navy. The message the author is trying to send is that Roosevelt has a lot of power in this side of the hemisphere. He uses the ships to threaten European countries because the U.S. has one of the strongest navy. On the other hand, some might think its good because its not letting others in because we will not interfere with their business. They think that we are just protecting our side of the hemisphere when really, we are giving more to us in our own hemisphere. Some techniques the cartoonist uses is exageration because Roosevelt is not bigger than countries and he cannot pull 15 battleships weighing more than 5 tons each. Another technique used is labeling to show what the water is, what the little islands represent, and what the ships are. This cartoon supports my position on impearlism because it shows Roosevelt with alot of power over other countries. It shows that he will use power to not let European countries interfere with us. What side do you support, the new policy was good, or it was not the right choice?
